Improving the school dance environment

My name is Richard Mattson.  I am a father of a teen, a former radio station manager and a friend to administrators at every age level.   I created the School Dance Network to help school districts, principals, dance administrators and parents sort out teen trends, and find the best ways  to provide a great school social event, that’s not only fun for the students but in good taste. The School Dance Network provides usable updated tools for administrators to create fun, appropriate and positive dance events at schools.  There is no charge....just register your school and start taking advantage of the many tools.  Your input is always welcome and our phone line is always open to our members:  1-800-217-9930.
You now have a place on the web where you can go to keep up to date on new music and lyrics, dance trends, teen slang, finding responsible DJs and even keep up with text message abbreviation.  Plus, we keep you in the loop with an on-going dialog about current issues that face every school dance administrator, faculty member and parent on our frequently updated blog.
That’s what the SCHOOL DANCE NETWORK is all about:  A quick, easy resource for you to keep up with the almost daily changes in teen culture.
We are uniquely qualified to provide this rapidly changing information because that’s all we do.

The School Dance Network  is the originator of the National “Do Not Play” list.  Our unique panel (made up of students, administrators, parents, DJs and clergy) reviews every song that is being added to radio play lists each week.  The song lyrics are evaluated based on their sexual content, language and violence and flagged accordingly.  Objectionable songs are added to the list and sent to subscribing schools via e mail (and to your DJ, at your request.)

Plus we are reaching out to virtually all reputable DJs in the country who are willing to work with schools to create high energy fun dance events that are clean and appropriate…they have joined our network of Responsible DJs, so administrators have easy access to DJs who are going to perform to a higher standard.

In addition we maintain a weekly Preferred play list for schools and DJs as a way of providing them positive input with music that is not only lyrically acceptable, but also includes a variety of genres to tailor the event to a wide range of student tastes.

We have developed a  pro-active, non-confrontational approach to controlling unacceptable dance behavior (Freaking, Grinding etc) at school dances and offer up usable tools and supplies to make a difference at your school’s dance events.

We’ll keep you updated on the latest slang words and phrases, text message abbreviations and through our blog every other trend we spot along the way.

Finally, because you are a registered member of a larger group “The School Dance Network” our voice may reach the music industry with some significance and power.  We will advise them each week of those songs that are not acceptable for teens at schools….and who knows, it just might over time  have an impact on what music gets recorded and released.    (See the Power of Many)
